Konstantin Chaykin, an independent and highly talented watch and clockmaker, has gained recognition in the horological community for his innovative creations. His Joker and Pumpkin Head watches, with their fun and original approach to serious watchmaking, have captivated audiences worldwide. Despite their limited production numbers, these watches have become highly desirable and collectable.
The latest addition to Chaykin's lineup is the Joker Fiat Lux, which features a partially skeletonised dial for a fresh and unique appearance. The watch retains the technical specifications of the original Joker, housed in a 42mm stainless steel case with a poker-themed decorated bezel. The dial showcases crowns at 3 o'clock for setting the minutes and hours and 9 o'clock for adjusting the moon phase, which is whimsically displayed through a mouth-shaped aperture at the bottom of the dial. Unlike previous editions, the Joker Fiat Lux has an exhibition caseback secured by six screws, allowing a view of the intricate movement. Both the front and back sapphire crystals have an anti-reflective coating.
The Joker Fiat Lux gets its name, "Fiat Lux," which translates from Latin to "let there be light," from the openworked design of the watch. The dial features Clous de Paris guilloche motif decorations, silver plating, intricate coating, and multi-layered varnish application. The eyes, which usually indicate the hour and minute, are hollow in this edition, revealing more of the underlying mechanism.
The watch is powered by the automatic K.07-0 calibre, a proprietary 84-part module. It has a 38-hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The display caseback showcases the calibre, with the real highlight being the rotor, which mirrors the wave-like skeletonised pattern found on the dial.
The Joker Fiat Lux comes with a black alligator leather strap with a green calfskin lining, closed with a pin buckle. It is a limited edition of 38 pieces and is available exclusively through West Wood Time in the Chaoyang District, Beijing. The price is available upon request.
